The isle of Sicily is blessed with a mild climate during the entire year. Not only is it the largest region in Italy, it is also the largest island in the Mediterranean. Sicily is a real touristic draw because of the main cities Catania and Palermo and the smaller cities Noto, Ragusa, Erice, Syracuse and Agrigento with small villages and seaside resorts in between.

This land was coveted by all of the major civilizations considering its strategic position in the Mediterranean. The town of Mazara del Vallo is a perfect example of this diversity: the city walls are Norman, there are numerous Catholic churches as well as an Arab quarter. In addition to its rich flora and deep blue sea, Sicily has an extremely important geographical attraction -the volcano Etna.

Just to mention some of the Sicilian specialities: pasta con le sarde (with sardines and wild fennel, though versions vary from place to place), pasta alla norma (with eggplant and ricotta), the famous caponata ( a sort of ratatouille) and for dessert il canolo and the cassata siciliana. Just some of the excellent wines: Etna rosso e bianco, Nero d'Avola, Cresuolo di Vittoria, Malvasia di Lipari, Mascato di Pantelleria, Marsala.
